075549010 - During the design process the 750cc ‘roundcase’ engine, it was intended to fit electronic ignition. The magneto system was to be supplied by the nearby ‘Ducati Eletronica’ company, mounted on the left hand crankcase next to the left main crank bearing. Wires from the stator would have passed out of the crankcase through a 30mm threaded brass nut and rubber disc seal.
As production neared, a decision was taken to fit contact breakers, probably on cost reasons…. This now meant that the 30mm threaded hole had to be blocked off and a new component was therefore needed.
Somehow… it was forgotten that the hex head fouled the left hand front engine mounting boss!
The solution was to machine away the underside of this boss to clear the nut, thereby weakening the front left hand engine mounting boss.
The end result is that if this plug needs to be removed, the 30mm hex socket wrench needed has insufficient clearance!
Our solution? Make the hex / socket size 28mm!
Made 6082 aluminium.
28mm hex socket fits with sufficient clearance.
